The Goal :: Himalayan IT Education Project

"The concern for man and his destiny must always be the chief interest of all technical effort. Never forget it between your diagrams and equations."
— Albert Einstein

To educate and empower

The goal of this project is to educate and empower the remote Himalayan communities of Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan, Himachal Pradesh and North West Bengal, by providing them with the knowledge and resources of an Information Technology (IT) education. The greater goal would be to enable them to lead productive lives so that they may become active participants in creating a brighter future for the Tibetan community at large.

  • To make the remote location an advantage, not a disadvantage.
  • To empower the remote villages with ICT, so they can be economically self-sufficient, and youth do not have to leave home.

The founder of this organisation is Ugyen Tsewang, born and raised in a remote settlement in Sikkim, who has experienced himself the draw towards education and activity in the plains, and the pain of having to stay away from his home.

To provide

  • Teaching of web development and computer skills, youth, young adults, and older adults, of different levels, in the Sikkim/North WB area.
  • Internet connection for remote settlements, monasteries, and other remote areas.
  • Computers and associated equipment for students, schools, monasteries and organisations.
  • Books, CDs, and other learning materials.
  • Teachers, from the Tibetan community and from outside, paid and volunteer.
  • Employment in web development, programming, and other IT jobs which can be done over the internet — "Location no bar".
  • Ongoing support.
